Salus South Hampshire office have been appointed to undertake the building control work on a new 8 storey hostel for the YMCA which is to be built on site of the existing YMCA building on Errol Street, London, currently under demolition.
The £16m redevelopment scheme comprises of a basement, ground floor and 6 upper floors containing 140 bedroom suites and studio flats. The scheme is fire engineered to maximise travel distances within the circulation routes, is fully accessible and includes additional evacuation lifts over and above the firefighting lift provisions normally provided for a building of this size.
The brand new flagship hostel is due to open in June 2018, providing a home and future for over 10,000 young homeless Londoners over the next 60 years.
