Featuring Kayley Waters, Technical Administrator
When clients think about building control, they often picture surveyors on-site, plans being checked, or meetings with project teams. But behind every successful inspection and every smooth client handover, there’s an essential layer of support: technical administration.
For Kayley Waters, now in her third year at Salus, it’s this behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything moving.
From Admin to Technical Admin
Kayley joined Salus with a strong background in administration, having worked in the pharmaceutical sector and for the NHS. “I’d always been in admin, but in different industries. When I saw the role at Salus, it looked like a good challenge—and I’m one of those people who likes to stay busy and keep pushing myself.”
That appetite for challenge has defined her approach to the role. “The day-to-day is varied. You’re supporting surveyors, setting up new projects, making sure paperwork is complete and accurate, and keeping everything ready on the system for when it’s needed. The surveyors can’t do their job properly without that foundation in place.”
A Welcoming Start
Switching into a new sector could have been daunting, but Kayley says the support she received stood out immediately.
“From the very start, everyone was so welcoming—right from directors down to colleagues in the admin team. If I had a question, I could pick up the phone to anyone, and they’d help. That’s quite rare. A lot of companies have stricter lines of reporting, but at Salus, people are genuinely approachable. It makes a huge difference.”
The Role Explained
So what exactly does a Technical Administrator do? Kayley sums it up simply:
“We provide support to the project surveyors. They go to site, and we make sure all the information, forms, and client details are processed and logged correctly. We take care of the background tasks so surveyors can focus on inspections.”
It’s work that requires detail, accuracy, and consistency. Missing or incomplete information can delay a project; efficient administration keeps projects on track.
Culture of Collaboration
For Kayley, the culture at Salus is what makes the job most rewarding. “It’s not just about doing your own tasks. It’s about knowing you’re part of a bigger process, part of a team. You feel valued because what you do makes a real difference.”
That culture of openness and collaboration is something she noticed right away—and something that has shaped her experience over the last two years. “It makes you want to do your best when you know everyone else is working towards the same goals.”
Looking Ahead
Asked what keeps her motivated, Kayley doesn’t hesitate. “The challenge. No two days are the same, and there’s always something new to learn. That’s what I enjoy most.”
Her role may be less visible than the work of surveyors on-site, but its impact is clear: without accurate technical administration, projects stall. With it, everything flows.
And that’s why Kayley’s story highlights something every client should know: administration isn’t background noise. At Salus, it’s part of the engine that drives projects forward.
