Focus on Education

Salus head into summer delivering fresh & blooming facilities for the nations young. With our growing presence in the Education Sector, below are just some of the recently completed educational schemes we are proud to have been involved in.

Avonwood Primary School

Appointed by contractors’ Extra space solutions to provide building control, Salus Approved Inspectors are proud to have recently signed off the new Avonwood Primary School in Dorset.

Constructed on reclaimed land, with the foundations a mix of precast concrete piles and pads, the building has been constructed using modular steel frames to create a single storey free standing structure with a shallow pitched roof. The approved ventilation strategy is Breathing Buildings, and while the project had no BREEAM requirements, it has met a 10% planning requirement on reducing the CO2 better than building regulations.

As part of the Avonbourne International Business Enterprise Academy Trust the 420 pupil capacity development includes pre-school classrooms to year 6, teaching spaces with storage, toilet accommodation, a double height assembly hall and an administration wing. Other facilities include 2 new MUGA pitches, tarmac tennis & netball courts and 3G artificial grass pitches.

St White’s slide into the 21st Century

Salus Approved Inspectors have worked alongside regular client E.G Carter & Co Ltd on the £6m rebuild of the St White’s Primary School in Cinderford.

As part of a countrywide Primary school improvement scheme St White’s received the backing for a new state of the art facility to replace their existing 1870’s site. The original 1870’s local landmark is a split site with a road running through the middle which separates the school’s facilities meaning that pupils had to cross a busy road each day to access the other side.

The new development, will continue to be the largest primary school in the Forest of Dean and will be made up of 11 class rooms to accommodate the existing 288 pupils with space for new admissions in the future. An added feature to the building is a slide that will link the upper level of the school to the outdoor amphitheatre which provides an additional unique teaching space.

Redbridge College

The new buildings have been designed to be more energy-efficient, using the latest heating and lighting technology, achieving BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and creating an annual cost saving to the college.
